Hail holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, O banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in the valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us, and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.
---------
V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
This is a very old prayer going back many centuries. The prayer is most commonly used at the end of the last mystery of the Rosary, but it can also be said other times.
Some look at Mary's numerous apparitions even over just the past two centuries and notice it appears that Mary has now already turned her "eyes of mercy towards us."
Nonetheless, whether thanking Mary for doing that, or asking her to continue to do that, this is a prayer which all know and which is said at the end of the Rosary.
The last two verses are not necessarily part of the prayer. Nonetheless, they are always said with the prayer at the end of the Rosary, and are often printed at its end as though a part of it anyway.
Memorize this prayer so that you can say what is normally the final prayer of the Rosary.
Technically, the Rosary can be said without this prayer added at the end at all, but you will almost never see that — especially when it is said in a group of Catholics.
